Kadhem Khanjar lives in Babel near Baghdad, holds a Masters Degree in Performance Studies, lectures in the Theatre Studies department at the University of Hilla and co-founded the ‘Culture Militia’ collective which puts on poetry performances at sites of violence and terror – ambulances, ISIS cages and bombed-out houses, minefields and the sites of terror attacks. The performances are shared on YouTube. Khanjar has published two collections of poems, Picnic with an Explosive Belt, published in Arabic by Dar al-Maktutat in the Netherlands, and Blood Dealer.
