(c) Jill-Bertels

Maud Vanhauwaert, born 1984 in Veurne, Belgium, is a poet, actor and performance artist. She studied Linguistics and Literature at the University of Antwerp, gaining a Masters Degree in Acting and Word Art at the Conservatory there, where she now teaches. She is reckoned to be one of the best text-on-stage poets in Europe, her texts working with jokes, absurd metaphors and short story elements. In 2018 and 2019 she was Antwerp’s official poet in residence, during her time as which she produced projects such as Toren van Babel (Tower of Babel), a gigantic bamboo and wood sculpture intended as a public and participative meeting place for all languages.
