The 21st poesiefestival berlin went viral on the web

The online edition of the 21st poesiefestival berlin (5–11 June) came to a successful conclusion yesterday evening. Under the heading Planet P, 150 poets from 29 countries brought the world-wide contemporary poetry scene to the computer screens. In total, the productions were accessed around 100.000 times.

The 21st poesiefestival berlin is now showing ONLINE

More than 30 events featuring 150 artists, tutorials, live chats, Poetry Market, interviews and everything in the media library

150 artists from all over the world have – with a huge amount of technical patience – put together an impressive programme of audio and video recordings, performances and music, turning their living space within their own four walls into their stage for us. Right up to the last minute the single bits and pieces have been put together in Berlin, subtitled and made into broadcasts that stand out from all previous editions of the festival with their intimacy, improvisation and visuality.

The online edition of the poesiefestival berlin (5 – 11 June) #planetpgoeson is making it possible for the first time for Weltklang – Night of Poetry, the big annual opening of the festival, to have a worldwide audience. The première will be broadcast at 7.30 pm on 5 June on the festival’s Facebook page and the YouTube channel of the Haus für Poesie, as well as on the festival site

Country focus at the 21st poesiefestival berlin is on Canada

In spite of corona, the poesiefestival berlin (5–11 June) is still managing to put its country focus on Canada even in its new form as an online festival. The two big Canadian events, the Berlin Poetry Lecture by Anne Carson and the Canadian-German VERSschmuggel / reVERSible, are taking place – albeit under quite different conditions than originally planned.

The online programme for Planet P is coming along nicely

Preparations for the poesiefestival berlin (5–11 June) are in full swing. For the first time in its 21-year history, it is taking place as a purely online festival. The festival site will be going live from the end of May.

#planetpgoeson offers talks, panels, interviews, cross-regionally produced video formats and an e-learning educational programme

“We became painfully aware that we had to cancel the poesiefestival berlin in analogue space. But in such a worldwide crisis there may also lie an opportunity. Exceptional times require exceptional measures. And so we have decided not to cancel the festival altogether – we will carry on with it and it will happen online, rethought both technologically and aesthetically and not as a desperate substitute,” says Festival Director Dr. Thomas Wohlfahrt.
