Ulrike Draesner

Ulrike Draesner, born 1962, writes poems, stories, novels, essays, radio plays and libretti. In her work she uses language to say what can hardly be said – yearnings, abysses and traumas. Ulrike Draesner has published six novels, most recently Sieben Sprünge vom Rand der Welt and Kanalschwimmer, five collections of poetry and several collections of stories and essays. She has given poetics lectures in Oxford, Bamberg and Frankfurt and since 2018 has been a Professor at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig. Draesner has received many awards and prizes for her literary work, most recently the Nicolas Born Prize (2016) and the Gertrud Kolmar Prize (2019). She is a member of the German PEN and the Academy of Arts, Berlin.
