Deborah Emmanuel, born 1988 in Singapore, is a poet and singer and describes herself as a “creatrix”. Her first book of poems, Giggle in my Sleep, tells of her time in a women’s prison and makes it clear that neither walls nor national borders nor genre boundaries can hold her back permanently. In this spirit she has performed at various poetry festivals, given TED talks and workshops, and she sings in her band Wobology and various sound projects, but also practises shamanistic healing. She is moving to New Zealand this year.
