(c) Khashayar Naderehvand

Athena Farrokhzad, born 1983 in Teheran, Iran, lives in Stockholm and writes in Swedish. She published her first volume, Vitsvit (White Lead), in 2013, and it has subsequently been translated into more than fifteen languages and adapted for the stage. Two more volumes of verse followed. Farrokhzad also works as a translator and teacher of Creative Writing at the Biskops-Arnos forfatterskola. “In my work I blend poetic, political and conceptual processes,“ she says. “I am interested in the intimacy revealed by social arrangements. And, in the words of Adrienne Rich: Art means nothing if it simply decorates the dinner table of the power which holds it hostage.”
